What is a MOBI file?

MOBI files mostly belong to Kindle by Amazon. A MOBI file is an e-book saved in Mobipocket format. It contains text, formatting, metadata, images, fonts, tables, and embedded databases all of which make up an e-book. MOBI format is based on Open eBook standard. It supports XHTML, JavaScript, native SQL queries (for embedded databases), and digital rights management. MOBI was previously developed as the default format for MobiPocket Reader. Amazon discontinued Mobipocket Reader after acquiring it from Mobipocket. Kindle for desktop and mobile platforms can open and read unprotected MOBI e-books.

How to open a MOBI file

You need a suitable software like Kindle to open a MOBI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
