What is an MP5 file?

MP5 files mostly belong to VLC Media Player. MP5 files are video container files that store video data with different internal structures.

How to open MP5 files

MP5 file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the MP5 files is as follows:

As a file extension, MP5 isn't very common and includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all MP5 files start with the bytes 01 00 00 00 crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 89 KB to 31 MB in size, with a median of 5 MB. The file type is a fairly new file format. Some examples of file names are 20180601.mp5 or 20180601[1].mp5.
• 15% of all MP5 files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "02 00 00 00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 170 KB and 110 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: JFIF. A usual file name is 20180601.mp5 or 20180601[1].mp5.
