What is a TS file?

TS files mostly belong to Media Player by Microsoft. Files with TS filename extension are usually video files stored in MPEG transport stream (also called MTS) digital container format. Such TS files may contain audio, video, text (such as subtitles), images, and metadata. This file format is mainly used in digital video broadcasting applications because a TS video can be packetized and dynamically transmitted over a network without too much degradation. The video streams in DVDs are sometimes saved in several TS files. Qt SDK, a software development kit for building user interfaces of native applications, stores phrase and translations to other languages in TS files. TS filename extension is also associated with source code files written in TypeScript programming language. These TS files are generally transpiled to JavaScript (JS) files before they are used in production.

How to open TS files

You need a suitable software like Media Player to open a TS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

TS file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our examination of the TS files comes to the following conclusion:

The TS file extension is very common and covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

All other TS files (65%) have no uniform format, often, for example, Qt Translation source and export. Sometimes used for lang, segment, event, study, intradaystudy, vscore or trend. Just click the "Choose your .ts file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your TS file is.

a ts video is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with TS files

  • Associate the TS file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open videos. Because only the current version supports the latest TS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Media Player update.
  • To make sure that your TS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .TS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
