Opening an ODB File

The ODB file type is primarily associated with Allegro PCB Editor.

What is an ODB file

ODB files mostly belong to Allegro PCB Editor by Cadence. An ODB file is a database saved in OpenDocument Database format. This file contains data organized into tables, reports, forms, script, logs, and schema definitions all of which are compressed into a ZIP archive. ODB databases are usually created by Base, the database management system bundled with OpenOffice and LibreOffice productivity software suites. ArcGIS uses the same ODB file to store an object database. Another type of ODB file is a PCB model saved in OpenDatabase++ format which is supported by Allegro PCB Editor. Abaqus finite element modeling and analysis software saves models in an ODB file.

How can I open an ODB file?

You need a suitable software like Allegro PCB Editor to open an ODB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ODB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ODB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ODB file format:

To view or edit ODB files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the ODB files:

The ODB file extension is quite common and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in ODB files:

All the rest of the ODB files (25%) have different formats, frequently e.g. ObjectDB. Tagged as historical. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ODB file!

an odb printed circuit board model is a special file format by Cadence and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with ODB files

  • Associate the ODB file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open printed circuit board models. Because only the current version supports the latest ODB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Cadence manufacturer website after an available Allegro PCB Editor update.
  • To make sure that your ODB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .ODB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
