What is an OGV file

OGV files mostly belong to Media Player by Microsoft. OGV is a filename extension for video files stored in OGG file format. An OGV file may contain one or more video streams, audio streams, text content, presentational text data, and metadata used during media playback. Theora, a free and open a lossy video compression standard is mainly used to encode videos saved in OGV files. Daala, Tarkin, and Dirac video codecs may also be embedded in an OGV file. The audio streams of OGV may be encoded with Vorbis, Opus, Speex, or FLAC. Text content stored in a standard OGG container file saved with OGV filename extension include text writing in Continuous Media Markup Language (timed text codec) and Annodex text data for annotating and indexing network media. OGV videos files may be played with video players such as VLC. The Theora codec used by OGV videos allows the storage of high quality videos at lower bitrates.

How to open OGV files

You need a suitable software like Media Player to open an OGV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
