What is an OPK file?

OPK files mostly belong to Origin by OriginLab. OPK files are compressed package installation files used by the Linux-based video game console GCW Zero. The OPK file for an application/game typically consists metadata such as its title, description, icon, and launch commands.

• Game installation: OPK files can be easily transferred to the gaming console in three ways. The first way is by using the GCW Zero Manager program, developed for Windows computers. The second way is by moving the OPK file into the Apps folder on the microSD card and then placing the SD card in the gaming console. Lastly, by using an FTP tool like Filezilla, OPK file can be transferred directly to the internal storage of the console.
• Other uses: OPK files are also associated with Origin and OriginPro software developed by OriginLab. OPK stands for Origin Pack file and is the archival and distribution file format for these software. These software are mainly used for data analysis, construction of publication-level graphs, programming, and executing batch operations. Apart from the built-in button groups and toolbars for easily accessing menu commands in Origin/OriginPro, it is possible to create new button groups/toolbars for the execution of user-designed tasks and transfer them to other users using OPK files.

How to open an OPK file

You need a suitable software like Origin to open an OPK file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OPK file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OPK file directly in the browser:. OPK is a very common file type and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:

• 60% of all OPK files internally use the ZIP format, that is, an OPK file includes multiple compressed files. An OPK file contains 4 to 200 files, the average being 4. File names are e.g. metadata.json, readme.md, script.cs, script.loli and settings.json. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The file size is in the range of 7 KB to 50 KB. The keywords metadata.json and readme.md are typical for these files. These files are attributed to portal, iptv, universal, deep, white, blue, stalker and crax.
• 25% of all OPK files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "hsqs" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 100 KB to 17 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as hsqs. These files are attributed to update, retroarch, fceux, retrofw, pocketsnes and regba.
