What is a PROFILE file?

PROFILE files mostly belong to Bash by Bash Developers. PROFILE is the filename extension of the configuration file used by the editor in Godot game development engine. It contains a JSON-encoded list of settings for menus, buttons, and panels used by the editor in Godot. PROFILE is also the filename extension of a script containing environment variables and commands that Bash and KornShell command interpreter load at startup/logon. Ardour digital audio workstation uses a different PROFILE file to save a connected device's profile. Vehicle scanning programs like FORScan use a PROFILE file to save the result of a Ford car scan.

How can I open a PROFILE file?

You need a suitable software like Bash to open a PROFILE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PROFILE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PROFILE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PROFILE file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the PROFILE files looks like this:

The PROFILE file extension is used very often and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in PROFILE files:

All other PROFILE files (77%) have no consistent format, often e.g. Ardour Mackie device Profile, ZIP, GZIP, JFIF, XML, ADQS and OTPR. Often described as density, ford, qseq, backup, barcodes or settling. Just click the "Choose your .profile file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your PROFILE file is.

How to solve problems with PROFILE files

  • Associate the PROFILE file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open shell environment variables/commands. Because only the current version supports the latest PROFILE file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Bash Developers manufacturer website after an available Bash update.
  • To make sure that your PROFILE file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
