Opening a PROPERTIES File
The PROPERTIES file type is primarily associated with JDK.
What is a PROPERTIES file
How to open a PROPERTIES file
You need a suitable software like JDK to open a PROPERTIES file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PROPERTIES file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PROPERTIES file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PROPERTIES file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the PROPERTIES files is as follows:
The PROPERTIES extension is very commonly used. This PROPERTIES file itself is among the most popular common file types and does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in PROPERTIES files:
- 15% of all PROPERTIES files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "version=" at the beginning. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. A typical file size is 76 bytes. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. client, version, play, services and firebase. An example of a file name is firebase-analytics.properties or billing.properties. Files like these are sometimes connected to services, play, firebase, analytics, auth, messaging, transport, common, tasks and base.
- 35% of all PROPERTIES files are based on the popular config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files contain text and words, not binary data. Most of these files are 740 bytes to 1 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: #Minecraft server properties, generator-settings=, force-gamemode=false, max-tick-time=60000, spawn-protection=16, allow-nether=true and query.port=25565. The file name server.properties is characteristic of these files.
All other PROPERTIES files (50%) have no consistent format, often, for example, UTF-8, XML, serv, type, fabric, Pkg, build, name, PeriodFormat and app. Tagged as crashlytics, build, gradle, android, data, language or wrapper. If you want to find out what your PROPERTIES file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with PROPERTIES files
- Associate the PROPERTIES file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open application properties/dependencies. Because only the current version supports the latest PROPERTIES file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Oracle manufacturer website after an available JDK update.
- To make sure that your PROPERTIES file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
