Opening a PYC File
The PYC file type is primarily associated with Python.
What is a PYC file?
How to open a PYC file
You need a suitable software like Python to open a PYC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PYC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PYC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PYC files:
- Python by Python Software Foundation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PYC files are often referred to as Python executables because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Python Decompiler (bytecode) by Python Decompiler DevelopersPython Decompiler is a discontinued web application that allowed developers to reverse-engineer Python bytecode (PYC/PYO files) to ASCII Python modules (PY files). This file format is classified as Executable. Related links: Differences Between .pyc, .pyd, and .pyo Python Files
PYC file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the PYC files is as follows:
PYC is a very commonly used file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in PYC files:
- 30% of all PYC files are associated with CPython 2.7 bytecode. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 5 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following filename is common: __init__.pyc. Files like these have the following tags: init, shaytan, python, config, data, utils, user and collide.
- 20% of all PYC files start with the bytes B crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 2 KB in size and range from 480 bytes to 13 KB. These files are often associated with cpython, settings, career, tuning, model and functions.
The remaining 50% of all PYC files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, CPython 3.5 bytecode, CPython 2.6 bytecode, CPython 3.4 bytecode, CPython 2.5 bytecode, CPython 2.2 bytecode, CPython 1.x bytecode and CPython 2.4 bytecode. Sometimes used for server, models, client, code, script, admin, core or task. You can get all the details of your PYC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pyc file to analyze" above.

a pyc bytecode is a special file format by Python Software Foundation and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PYC files
- Associate the PYC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open bytecodes. Because only the current version supports the latest PYC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Python Software Foundation manufacturer website after an available Python update.
- To make sure that your PYC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PYC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
