RAS file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the RAS files:
The RAS file extension is used very often and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 40% of all RAS files are associated with Rigaku XRD RAS format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The file size is in the range of 26 KB to 200 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords *RAS_DATA_START, *RAS_HEADER_START, *DISP_FMT_Y "%.0f", *DISP_LINE_COLOR "255.0000000000", *DISP_LINE_STYLE "0.0000000000", DISP_FULLSCALE, DISP_LINE_WIDTH and *DISP_FMT_X "%.2f" are typical for these files. Files like these are about reswell, powder, swell, material and cuzif.
- 20% of all RAS files are Max Payne data files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 160 MB in size and range from 17 MB to 390 MB. Examples of file names are x_data.ras or MP2_Data.ras. Such files are related to data, music, english, level, sounds and levels.
The remaining 40% of all RAS files are files with no common format, often e.g. Sun Raster bitmap, srcdocid and SIG. These files sometimes refer to sample, andreeav, russian, polish, calss or kbpm. You can get all the details of your RAS file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .ras file to view this image" above.

- To make sure that your RAS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RAS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
