What is a RELS file?
How to open a RELS file

- Office (relationships) by MicrosoftOffice is a proprietary software suite with applications for word/spreadsheet processing, desktop publishing, and presentation. It uses a RELS file to save information about parts of a document. This file format is classified as Page Layout.
RELS file format details:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the RELS files:
RELS is rarely used as a file extension and is primarily used by a single program. The following file formats are most commonly found in RELS files:
- 75% of all RELS files are Open Office XML Relationships files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. RELS files are between 260 bytes and 1 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Relationship Id, Type, <Relationships xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/package/2006/relationships"><Relationship and <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>. The file name .rels or document.xml.rels is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to workbook, sheet, fixed and blockdiagram.
- 20% of all RELS files save the data in XML file format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The average file size is 440 bytes with most files being between 250 bytes and 930 bytes in size. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0", Relationship Type, encoding="utf-8"?><Relationships xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/package/2006/relationships"><Relationship, Target and http://eyazisma.dpt/iliskiler/. A usual file name is .rels or NihaiOzet.xml.rels.
All other RELS files (5%) have different formats. Files like these are sometimes linked to sequence, fdseq or fpage. If you want to find out which format your RELS file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .rels file to view".

- Update your software that should actually open relationships. Because only the current version supports the latest RELS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apache manufacturer website after an available OpenOffice update.
- To make sure that your RELS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RELS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
