Opening an SDW File
The SDW file type is primarily associated with StarOffice.
What is an SDW file
How to open SDW files
You need a suitable software like StarOffice to open an SDW file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDW file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDW file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SDW file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the SDW files:
You will often come across the SDW file type. This mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in SDW files:
- 80% of all SDW files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. Microsoft Compound File is a complex container format used by some versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows-centric applications. It has features similar to those of a filesystem format. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". There is also a CLSID, a globally-unique identifier of a COM (Component Object Model) object: c20cf9d1-85ae-11d1-aab4-006097da561a or 8b04e9b0-420e-11d0-a45e-00a0249d57b1. The file contains sections CompObj, SummaryInformation, Ole, persist elements, SfxDocumentInfo, SfxStyleSheets, StarWriterDocument, SwPageStyleSheets, SwNumRules and SfxWindows. The average file size is 39 KB with most files being between 13 KB and 10 MB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. Such files are related to decreto, german, kroman, origins, notatka, rozpytanie, barclay, letter, photo, list and sahc.
- 5% of all SDW files start with the bytes 30 2E crucial for this file format. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are often between 89 bytes and 120 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0.000000000000000.
All other SDW files (15%) have different formats, frequently e.g. AmiDraw Drawing, StarWriter 2 and .NET. Tagged as worklist, bhaktivedanta, vedabase or focal. You can get all the details of your SDW file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .sdw file to view" above.

an sdw text document is a special file format by Oracle and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SDW files
- Associate the SDW file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open text documents. Because only the current version supports the latest SDW file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Oracle manufacturer website after an available StarOffice update.
- To make sure that your SDW file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SDW file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
