What is an SDW file

SDW files mostly belong to StarOffice by Oracle. An SDW file is a text document created by the word processor in StarOffice productivity software suite. StarOffice is discontinued but the Writer component of LibreOffice and OpenOffice can open and edit an SDW document. This format is obsolete. Discontinued programs such as Ami Pro and Word Pro save a drawing in a different type of SDW file. Visual SourceSafe source control program used SDM files to save data in the shadow directory. Visual SourceSafe is discontinued.

How to open SDW files

You need a suitable software like StarOffice to open an SDW file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDW file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDW file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SDW file format:

If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the SDW files:

You will often come across the SDW file type. This mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in SDW files:

All other SDW files (15%) have different formats, frequently e.g. AmiDraw Drawing, StarWriter 2 and .NET. Tagged as worklist, bhaktivedanta, vedabase or focal. You can get all the details of your SDW file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .sdw file to view" above.

an sdw text document is a special file format by Oracle and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with SDW files

  • Associate the SDW file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open text documents. Because only the current version supports the latest SDW file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Oracle manufacturer website after an available StarOffice update.
  • To make sure that your SDW file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .SDW file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
