What is an SDX file?

SDX files mostly belong to CDX Editor. SDX files are specialized data files that most often hold satellite channel lists used by satellite receiver and configuration programs.
These files can use different internal structures, such as JSON for organized channel data or XML for representing sequence diagrams. A few files are stored in a compressed ZIP format, for example, to hold Visio diagram data used in Siemens Simaris Design (Siemens).
Other use cases include:

FilExt.com notes: If you open an SDX file, note its content by checking for JSON, XML, or ZIP headers. Use a basic text editor if it appears to be text-based or a ZIP tool if it is compressed. The internal format generally hints at which specialized application is needed to properly view or edit its contents.

How to open an SDX file

You need a suitable software like CDX Editor to open an SDX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDX file directly in the browser:. The SDX file extension is quite widespread and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 65% of all SDX files are associated with CaptiveWorks satellite channel database. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. SDX files are between 18 KB and 140 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as GXDatabaseV. GX6605_HD_DatabaseV1.00_1.sdx or GX_HD_DatabaseV1.00_1.sdx is a typical file name. Such files sometimes refer to database, list, channels, channel, starsat, data, cxdatabase, astra and base.
• 10% of all SDX files are associated with SatcoDX channel list. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are on average 59 KB in size and range from 16 KB to 130 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SATCODX, TMPG and Astra. The following filename is common: uploaded_service_list.sdx or Fernsehliste.sdx. Such files are related to uploaded, service and rksat.

The remaining 25% of all SDX files are files with no common format, the following 7 formats exist: JSON, XML, ZIP and http. Tagged as star, lista, liste, super, extreme or vision.
