What is a SEF file?

SEF files mostly belong to Sports System. SEF files are not a single format but a collection of specialized data files used in different professional fields.
These files can store and exchange structured information. They come in several variants:

Sports Event Entry Data File: Used by sports management systems to record competitor entries and event details.

Steganos Encrypted File: Created by the Steganos Security Suite (also known as Steganos Safe) to protect sensitive data. For more details, visit Steganos Privacy Suite.

How to open SEF files

You need a suitable software like Sports System to open a SEF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. SEF file extension format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SEF files is as follows:

The SEF file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes very many different file formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 15% of all SEF files start with the magic bytes 53 53 03 04 14 00 00 00 08, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 1 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 2 KB. The files contain the following words: MEET, cd`i and EDFSDh. Files like these are about entry and data.
• 10% of all SEF files use the same file format, which have the signature EDIDE1001. They consist of unreadable binary data. SEF files can be up to 180 KB in size, but are often around 11 KB - 150 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. EDIDE1001. An example of a file name is 810_004010.EVAL0.SEF. Files like these have the following tags: eval.
