Opening an SPX File
The SPX file type is primarily associated with SODERN System Profiler.
What is an SPX file?
Alternate Use - Audio Compression:
Some SPX files use the Ogg container to hold Speex-compressed audio. This format is used to store speech recordings. More information is available at the Speex website.
Other less common uses include:
How to open SPX files
You need a suitable software like SODERN System Profiler to open an SPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SPX files:
- SODERN System Profiler
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SPX files are often referred to as SODERN System Profiler data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Foxpro (Compiler Screen Program) by Microsoft Corporation
- OggSPX has traditionally been used for Speex files within Ogg and should be considered for backwards-compatibility. The Mime types used with this association are: audio/ogg. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 4F 67 67 53 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00, ASCII: OggS . This file format is classified as Audio.

SPX file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SPX files is as follows:
The SPX file extension is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all SPX files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are often between 26 KB and 5 MB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <array>, <dict>, <plist version="1.0"> and <key>_SPCommandLin. A usual file name is MacBook Pro.spx or iMac.spx. Such SPX files store data about book, system, report, mini and macbook.
- 30% of all SPX files are Speex encoded audio files, which are based on the Ogg file format. The Ogg format is an audio file format similar to MP3, but unrestricted by software patents. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. SPX files are between 4 KB and 1 MB in size. The keywords OggS, PSpeex 1.2rc1, Encoded with aucomp and offhook are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: music, what, feynman, people, audio, other, think and care.
The remaining 35% of all SPX files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Spectrum 512 Extended bitmap and SPX. These files sometimes refer to diagnostic or screen. If you want to find out which format your SPX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .spx file to play".

How to solve problems with SPX files
- Associate the SPX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SPX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SODERN System Profiler update.
- To make sure that your SPX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SPX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
