Opening a UDF File

The UDF file type is primarily associated with Nero.

UDFFile Extension UDF
File extension: UDF
File type:  disk file system

What is a UDF file?

UDF files mostly belong to Nero by Nero. UDF (short for Universal Disk Format) is a file system which defines the structure of files and folders in read-only and rewritable optical disc media/formats (e.g. DVD, CD, and Blu-ray Discs). Disk images containing a UDF file system are usually saved in ISO format. Excel uses a UDF file to store a user-defined function script for an SQL Server database. A different UDF file contains a backup of satellite TV channels used by GTMedia V9. Device Manager NX Lite uses a UDF file to save address books of networked printers. Philips x-ray machines save x-ray diffraction information in UDF files.

How to open UDF files

You need a suitable software like Nero to open a UDF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UDF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UDF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

UDF file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the UDF files:

UDF is a very commonly used file extension and includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

The remaining 20% of all UDF files are files with no common format, the following 8 formats can be found: X-ray diffraction data file format, UCS and USTR. Tagged as addr, ricoh, aficio, prime, cevap, yadvisor, floor or hero. If you want to find out which format your UDF file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .udf file to view".

a udf disk file system is a special file format by Nero and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with UDF files

  • Associate the UDF file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open disk file systems. Because only the current version supports the latest UDF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Nero manufacturer website after an available Nero update.
  • To make sure that your UDF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .UDF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
