What is a VOB file?

VOB files mostly belong to Media Player by Microsoft. VOB is the filename extension of the Video Object container format used to store multiplexed video, audio, menus, text, and metadata in DVDs. The video streams in VOB files are H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2-econded, whereas the audio streams may be AC-3, Linear PCM, MPEG-2 multichannel or MPEG-1 Layer II 2 channel audio. DVD camcorders typically store captured videos (and audio) in VOB files. Programs such as PowerDVD and VLC can play VOB videos, however, the contents of these files are sometimes encrypted to prevent copyright infringement. VOB filename extension is also used by 3D model files created with Vue, a 3D modeling and animation software. These VOB files contain polygonal meshes representing world objects such as oceans, the sky, trees, terrains, and mountains. Live for Speed, a car racing video game, saves meshes, materials, and texture used to render and customize 3D race cars in VOB files.

How can I open a VOB file?

You need a suitable software like Media Player to open a VOB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VOB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VOB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

VOB file extension format:

If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the VOB files:

The VOB extension is very commonly found and predominantly uses a uniform format. But the following two file formats are common:

All the rest of the VOB files (4%) have different formats, the following 4 formats exist: Gdjr. Often described as myco. You can get all the details of your VOB file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .vob file to play" above.

a vob video is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with VOB files

  • Associate the VOB file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open videos. Because only the current version supports the latest VOB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Media Player update.
  • To make sure that your VOB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .VOB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
