Opening a UNF File

File extension: UNF
File type:  backup

What is a UNF file?

UNF files mostly belong to UniFi by Ubiquiti. A UNF file is a disk image cloned from a NES or Famicom console's game ROM or cartridge. Various NES and Famicom game console emulators can mount and run video games saved in a UNF file. UniFi WiFi network management application uses a different type of UNF file to save backups. UNF is also the filename extension of plugin data files used by HyperSpy data analysis library. Such plugin data is saved in Semper format.

How can I open a UNF file?

You need a suitable software like UniFi to open a UNF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UNF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UNF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

UNF format details:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the UNF files comes to the following conclusion:

The UNF file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

The remaining 98% of all UNF files are files with no common format. These files sometimes refer to autobackup, backup, unifi, controller, precipah or wifi. If you want to find out which format your UNF file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .unf file to analyze".

How to solve problems with UNF files

  • Associate the UNF file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open backups. Because only the current version supports the latest UNF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Ubiquiti manufacturer website after an available UniFi update.
  • To make sure that your UNF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .UNF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
