All about DCV Files
The DCV file type is primarily associated with DCV Player.
What is a DCV file
- Video files: The primary function is for secure video playback. The encryption ensures that the video content remains protected and is accessible only with the correct software.
- Game files: A smaller group of DCV files use a ZIP format. These contain game data for Affect3D, acting as compressed archives that require extraction using tools like DCVextractor.
FilExt.com notes: If you have a DCV file, you should use the designated software. For video, open it with DCV Player. For game data, use a tool that can extract ZIP archives such as DCVextractor.
How to open a DCV file
You need a suitable software like DCV Player to open a DCV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DCV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DCV file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

DCV file format:
To view or edit DCV files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the DCV files:
DCV is a very widely used file extension. The file type predominantly uses a uniform format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 95% of all DCV files are based on the popular MP4 file format. MP4 is a multimedia container format used to store video and audio and allows streaming over the Internet. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 2 GB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The keywords \tkhd, ftypisom, lmvhd, avc1mp42iso6, moov and trak are typical for these files. These files are often associated with mide, ssni, pppd, rctd, dvdes, dasd, dandy, mytheater and sdde.
- 4% of all DCV files use the ZIP algorithm, the DCV file contains a number of compressed files. A typical number of included files is 146. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. DCV files can be up to 280 MB in size, but are often around 25 MB - 280 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ClaraRavensEp4b/001.dci, ClaraRavensEp4b/PK and cqGK. The file name Clara Ravens Ep. 4b.dcv or Clara Ravens Ep 4 - Colombinas Illusion Part 2.dcv is characteristic of these files. Files like these have the following tags: dossier, episode, colombinas, illusion and preview.
The remaining 1% of all DCV files are files with no common format. These files sometimes refer to dvdms, nhdta, idbd, sero, snis, star or ymdd. If you want to find out which format your DCV file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .dcv file to analyze".
