Opening WS Files
The WS file type is primarily associated with Forcepoint DLP Endpoint.
What is a WS file
They are used in several contexts:
FilExt.com tips: If you have a WS file, you should use the software that created it. For encrypted files, use Forcepoint DLP tools; for connection settings, use IBM’s software; for Redis dumps, review Redis or R-Studio guidelines; and for nesting data, use the designated SignLab application. Be aware that sharing the same extension does not mean the files are identical in structure or function.
How do you open WS files?
You need a suitable software like Forcepoint DLP Endpoint to open a WS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

WS file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the WS files is as follows:
The WS file extension is rather rarely used and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in WS files:
- 40% of all WS files internally utilize the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 9 KB to 1 MB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. This file is protected by Forcepoint DLP Endpoint. Open it on an authorized endpoint machine or run. The file name playerWitcher.ws is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to player, mccormac, witcher, quest, docx, menu and xlsx.
- 9% of all WS files are associated with IBM iSeries Client Access WorkStation profile files, which internally utilize the well-known config format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 500 bytes to 860 bytes in size. The keywords ID=WS, [Profile], HostName, Version=9, [Telnet5250], Security=CA400 and trace=Y are typical for these files.
All the rest of the WS files (51%) have different formats, often, for example, SigmaNEST WorkSpace and class. Files like these are sometimes linked to registry, source, code, mods or flag. If you want to find out which format your WS file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ws file to analyze".
