Programs that open and convert AD1 files:
- FTK Imager
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. AD1 files are often referred to as FTK Imager disk images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Forensic Toolkit (Forensic Toolkit Image) by AccessdataAn ADI disk image file contains the Forensic Toolkit Image data. AD1 translates to Access Data 1. The AccessData group developed the forensic software, Forensic Toolkit. It was developed for the purpose of scanning hard drives in order to search for all sorts of information. The contents of an ADI file can be accessed using the Forensic Toolkit application for Window operating system.
AD1 file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the AD1 files:
The AD1 extension is quite commonly used. The file itself mainly uses a defined AD1 format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 90% of all AD1 files belong to AccessData Segmented image. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 12 KB to 930 MB in size. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: ADSEGMENTEDFILE. A common filename is browserdata.ad1. Files like these are about image, chall, disk, physical, memcapture, pwnlabctf, away and give.
- 5% of all AD1 files start with the magic bytes 00 00 00 C1 0E, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are not pure binary files and are therefore readable and interpretable with a text editor. AD1 files can be up to 6.2 KB in size, but are often around 6.1 KB - 6.2 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as INS_ADDR1, INS_ADDR2, INS_CITY, INS_CO_ID, INS_CO_NM and INS_ST.
The remaining 5% of all AD1 files are different files with different signatures, the following 3 formats exist: AccessData Encrypted disk image. The category is laptop, triage, horcrux, profile, adca, radikalisme, bobhdduser, contentimg, evidencias, forensic, serious, hunter, book, data or flag. If you want to find out which format your AD1 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ad1 file to analyze".
