What is a B16 file?

B16 files mostly belong to PCO CamWare. These B16 files mainly store 16-bit raw image data from PCO cameras. They are produced by technical imaging systems and are used with the PCO CamWare application.

How to open a B16 file

You need a suitable software like PCO CamWare to open a B16 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The B16 file extension mainly uses a defined B16 format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 70% of all B16 files are PCO bitmap files. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 3 MB with most files being between 900 KB and 11 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PCO-. Cam1_0001A.b16 is a typical file name. Such B16 files store data about slit, noplif, uvsensicam, dpostelpo, rpmfront and comb.
• 3% of all B16 files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "00 01 01 00 00 00 01 18" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 300 KB to 300 KB.
