What is a BMA file?

BMA files mostly belong to OpenTTD. Your BMA file can be a file that stores different kinds of data. It may be used as a Bitmap Array file, which many times is used by OpenTTD to hold bitmap graphics for the game. In this form the file holds image data that a game engine or specialized viewer can display.

How to open BMA files

You need a suitable software like OpenTTD to open a BMA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The BMA file extension is not common and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in BMA files:

• 35% of all BMA files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "12 34 32 10 00 00 00 01" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 2 KB to 7 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The file name high_quality.1x.bma or high_quality.2l.bma is typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: quality, high and darkstyle.
• 15% of all BMA files start with the bytes 06 00 04 00 crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 8 KB to 160 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. scene root and rootdummy. Files like these are about free, and often contain personal information.
