All about BPL Files
The BPL file type is primarily associated with AutoCAD.
What is a BPL file?
- Main Use: BPL stands for Borland Package Library. Packages are used for developing applications and by the IDE. The package refers to a source module that has the extension BPK and the BPL file that is generated at the time of building the package. The BPL files contain the executable package code and export the functions and data belonging to the package. BPL files are identical to DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files as they are both used for dynamically linking executable code to the intended application. The type of BPL file that is created depends upon whether the package is a runtime package or a design-time package. If it is a runtime package, the BPL file consists of a runtime library that can be accessed by dynamically linked applications. If the package is a design-time package, the corresponding BPL file consists of a design-time library that can be integrated into the IDE for availing new components during design time.
- Other Uses: BPL file can also refer to log files used by TSR Mobile that manages underground pipe and drilling information. These BPL files possess data relating to horizontal directional drilling (HDD) of the bore path. AutoCAD software (version 14 or earlier) also uses BPL files to save batch plot information.
How do you open BPL files?
You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a BPL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BPL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BPL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BPL files:
- AutoCAD by Autodesk, Inc.
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BPL files are often referred to as AutoCAD data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Delphi (Boreland package library) by Embarcadero TechnologiesDelphi is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for developing applications using the Object Pascal programming language. The BPL file format stores a Boreland package library for Delphi. This file format is classified as Developer. - TSR Mobile (bore plan log file) by SubsiteTSR Mobile is an application for Android and iOS that allows users to manage underground pipe and drilling data. The BPL file format is a bore plan log file in TSR Mobile. It stores the bore path for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). This file format is classified as Data. - Winamp (playlist file) by RadionomyWinamp is a media player developed by Radionomy for the Windows operating system. It is sold as freemium, and allows extensibility with plug-ins, skins, music visualization, playlists and a media library. BPL is a special playlist format in Winamp. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Winamp on Wikipedia, Article on Winamp
BPL format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the BPL files comes to the following conclusion:
The BPL file extension is quite common and mainly uses a special format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 90% of all BPL files belong to Borland Package Library. The files are using the common file format EXE. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). They consist of unreadable binary data. BPL files are between 84 KB and 2 MB in size. The file type is very old but is also used today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as This program must be run under Win32. These files are often associated with madexcept, dbrtl, driver, adortl, dbexpress, vcldb, indy and data.
- 3% of all BPL files are based on the well-known Flash file format. A ShockWave Flash file contains an outdated Macromedia/Adobe Flash Player compressed movie. Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall the Flash Player to help protect their systems. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. BPL files can be up to 8 MB in size, but are often around 590 KB - 5 MB. These files can be linked to neplk.
All other BPL files (7%) have no consistent format. Sometimes used for module, xmlrtl, bcbie, common, dbxclient, designide, protocols, package, bdertl, client, sqlpay, system, delta, saldo, card, core, iren, odac, pack, site, snap or vclx. a bpl batch plot list is a special file format by Autodesk, Inc. and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BPL files
- Associate the BPL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open batch plot lists. Because only the current version supports the latest BPL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Autodesk, Inc. manufacturer website after an available AutoCAD update.
- To make sure that your BPL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BPL file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
