What is a DPL file?

DPL files mostly belong to ZebraDesigner. DPL files can serve very different purposes depending on their source.

Printer label files: Many DPL files contain commands and layout data for label printers. They use a language sometimes known as Data Plotting Language to instruct devices like Zebra, Datamax, or Dymo label printers. How do you open DPL files?

DPL file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the DPL files comes to the following conclusion:

The DPL extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in DPL files are:

• 20% of all DPL files belong to WINDEV print Duplicate. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 69 KB and 1 MB in size. It is a modern file type. Examples of file names are Dupli_20180601.dpl. These files are attributed to facture and juin.
• 15% of all DPL files use the same file format, which have the signature 02 6E. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 4 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as IDp00000 and KcLW0394. Such DPL files store data about label, outward, etiquette and lapows.

All other DPL files (65%) have different formats, often e.g. Borland component, UTF-8, UTF-16 (LE), XML, config, PAR, ascii, Qucs, DPL, Thumbprint and STX. They are often associated with labels, player, mini, notg, iptv, template, datamax, journal or piece.
