All about BSV Files
The BSV file type is primarily associated with DeSmuME.
What is a BSV file?
These BSV files are mostly used by emulators such as DeSmuME (desmume.org) to capture the full state of an emulated game. They hold system memory, registers, and settings in a binary format that is not meant for manual editing.
Binary Scene Viewer Files:
A smaller group of BSV files is used as binary scene viewers for Blu-ray media. They store scene data needed for navigation or preview in specific media applications.
Bluespec SystemVerilog Source Files:
A few BSV files contain source code written in Bluespec SystemVerilog. These files are processed with the Bluespec SystemVerilog Compiler available from Bluespec and are used in hardware design projects.
Usage Tips:
How do you open BSV files?
You need a suitable software like DeSmuME to open a BSV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BSV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BSV file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BSV files:
- DeSmuME
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BSV files are often referred to as DeSmuME games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- BASIC Bsave Graphics
BSV file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the BSV files is as follows:
As a file extension, BSV isn't very common and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all BSV files use the same file format, which have the signature BSV1. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 680 KB. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: BSV1. A usual file name is Test.bsv. Files like these have the following tags: super, mario, pokemon, world and fire.
- 7% of all BSV files are based on the well-known Source file format. A source code is the set of instructions written by a programmer using a computer programming language like JavaScript, C++ or Basic. This code is translated into machine language by a compiler. The translated result is called app, program or executable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 3 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as package and import Vector::*;.
The remaining 48% of all BSV files are files with no common format, often e.g. XML and HEAD. These files sometimes refer to property or quotes. Just click the "Choose your .bsv file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your BSV file is.
Technical Data for BSV File Extension
a bsv binary file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BSV files
- Associate the BSV file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open binary files. Because only the current version supports the latest BSV file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available DeSmuME update.
- To make sure that your BSV file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
