Opening a BTS File
The BTS file type is primarily associated with TurbSim.
What is a BTS file?
Bluetooth Initialization Scripts: In some cases, a BTS file acts as a script that initializes Bluetooth settings. Companies like BTSXchange use these files to configure device parameters during startup.
Game Scenario and Save Data: Other BTS files come in the form of scenario or save files for certain games. They store information for setting up game battles or preserving progress in titles such as BattleTech 2: The Clans or Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord. A related example is noted on the Battlefront MatrixGames site.
- TurbSim Wind Data - Holds simulation parameters for wind models.
- Bluetooth Script - Contains commands for device initialization.
- Game Data - Saves game scenarios and progress details.

BTS file format:
To find out what program is needed to open BTS files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the BTS files produces the following result:
The BTS file extension is not found very often and covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 20% of all BTS files start with the magic bytes 07 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 8 MB. The file type is relatively new. The keywords This full-field file was generated by TurbSim (v1.06.00, 21-Sep-2012) on 07-Jan-2014 at 12:50:45 are typical for these files. A common filename is 90m_12mps_twr.bts or wind.bts. Such BTS files store data about windfield.
- 10% of all BTS files start with the bytes BTS crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. BTS files can be up to 74 KB in size, but are often around 4 KB - 50 KB. The keywords #-----------, BTSB, Description, Initialization Script, Orca and Compatibility are typical for these files. A usual file name is TIInit_2020-06-01.bts. These files are often associated with initscripts.
All other BTS files (70%) have different formats, the following 5 formats can be found: BATTLESCRIPT and XXXSP. These files are often connected to data, ofday, ljse, turb or fund. If you want to find out what your BTS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with BTS files
- Associate the BTS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open binary files. Because only the current version supports the latest BTS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available TurbSim update.
- To make sure that your BTS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BTS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
