What is a BVF file?

BVF files mostly belong to BIM Vision. The BVF file is a BIM file container that uses an internal ZIP format to bundle building model data.

Usage: It stores elements of Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects.

How to open BVF files

You need a suitable software like BIM Vision to open a BVF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BVF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BVF file directly in the browser:. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The BVF file extension includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

60% of all BVF files use the ZIP algorithm, that is, a BVF file includes multiple compressed files. BVF files contain from 5 to 6 compressed files. File names inside are bv_cache.bin, bv_revisions.txt, bv_tree.xml and bv_version.txt. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. BVF files are between 850 KB and 91 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. bv_tree.xml and bv_version.txt. Such files sometimes refer to model, maquette, proposition, projet, point and senza.
20% of all BVF files start with the bytes V1, which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. BVF files are between 630 KB and 4 MB in size.
