What is a CKD file?

CKD files mostly belong to KeyCreator by Kubotek3D. A CKD file contains a 2D/3D product part or assembly design/model created with Kubotek3D design programs such as KeyCreator and CADKEY. This file is saved in Compound Document format. It contains parts geometry, construction entities, dimensions, toolpaths, process sheets, part references, related part/assembly drawings, layout objects, and model-specific information such as surfaces. Another type of CKD file is a game asset identifier used by UbiArt Framework game engine. UbiArt Framework is the game engine used in video games such as Rayman Adventures, Just Dance, and Child of Light. These game asset identifiers are written in JSON syntax.

How to open CKD files

You need a suitable software like KeyCreator to open a CKD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CKD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CKD file directly in the browser:. CKD file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The CKD file extension is quite widespread and covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in CKD files are:

• 25% of all CKD files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. • 6% of all CKD files are using the well-known JSON file format to store the data. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are 300 bytes to 68 KB in size, with a median of 2 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. __class and Template. songdesc.tpl.ckd is a typical file name. Such files sometimes refer to tape, feedback, jdmgymnast, karaoke and dance.
