What is a DECK file

DECK files mostly belong to Figma & Anki. DECK files are not one single type of file. They are used by different applications to store collections of items.
For example,

Figma presentation files use a ZIP structure. These files hold design slides and layout data. You can view them by opening the file in Figma (Figma website).

Anki flashcard deck files use a plist format or other text encoding. They store flashcards used for spaced repetition study. Open these with Anki (Anki web).

Trading Card Game decks (for Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh!) are text-based files using UTF-8 encoding. They list card configurations for use in respective game programs.

DeckTools project data files may store CAD drawing or project details. These require DeckTools software to view the designs.

How to open a DECK file

DECK file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the DECK files comes to the following conclusion:

The DECK file extension is used very often and covers different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 40% of all DECK files are based on the zip format, i.e. a DECK file contains several compressed files. A DECK file contains 4 to 100 files, the average being 31. The following filename is common: WigglyPaint.deck.

The remaining 40% of all DECK files are different files with different signatures, the following 10 formats exist: plist, UTF-8, XML, bvx and DeckToolsProject.
