Opening a DETAILS File
The DETAILS file type is primarily associated with Moodle.
What is a DETAILS file
For example, Moodle uses these files to store coursework and student submission metadata. This helps the system manage academic records without mixing them with the actual coursework content. View more details at Moodle.
Similarly, in gaming, Dishonored 2 employs DETAILS files to record game save file details and game progress metadata. This ensures that your game progress is stored separately from the main game files. More on this can be found at Dishonored 2 page.
FilExt.com note: These files are designed for internal use by their applications. They typically hold structured data that the software reads to manage and keep track of user information and progress.

DETAILS file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the DETAILS files comes to the following conclusion:
DETAILS is not a common file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 20% of all DETAILS files start with the bytes Course number: 23 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The file size is in the range of 430 bytes to 520 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Assignment, File name, Saved as, Submitted by, Semester: Winter2020-2021 (202001), Course number: 234114, Spring and Student name.
- 7% of all DETAILS files have the same signature ch. These files contain text and words, not binary data. DETAILS files are between 130 bytes and 290 bytes in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as difficulty, mapName and gameVersion. The following filename is common: game.details.
All other DETAILS files (73%) have no uniform format. If you want to find out which format your DETAILS file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .details file to analyze".
