What is a DFI file

DFI files mostly belong to TI Battery Management Studio. DFI files are used by different companies for specialized purposes. They may contain firmware for battery management, disk images for factory duplication, or tabular index data for measurement applications.

Battery firmware: These files can hold battery gauge firmware or data, often used by Texas Instruments Battery Management Studio. For more details, visit TI Battery Tool or Texas Instruments.

Disk images: Some DFI files are created by DiskFactory32 to make exact images of disks. This version is used to clone or backup disk content. See DiskFactory for additional details.

Data indexes: In other cases, DFI files serve as indexes for tabular data in measurement systems, as seen with DEWESoftX software.

FilExt.com tips: Open each DFI file with the software provided by its creator. If it is related to battery data, use TI tools. For disk imaging, use DiskFactory software, and for measurement indexes, use DEWESoftX. A hex editor can also reveal more of its internal structure if needed.

How do you open DFI files?

You need a suitable software like TI Battery Management Studio to open a DFI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DFI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DFI file directly in the browser:. If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the DFI files:

The DFI file extension is not common and includes many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:

• 15% of all DFI files have the same signature 01 2C 00 C8. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. DFI files are between 1.7 KB and 2 KB in size. An example of a file name is bq20z40_1_04.dfi.
• 10% of all DFI files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "202" at the beginning. The content consists of binary data as well as text and words. The files are 23 KB to 150 KB in size, with a median of 30 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 000000 and 040777.
