What is a DRT file?

DRT files mostly belong to DaVinci Resolve. DRT files come in various forms based on their internal format. The most common form is a DaVinci Resolve timeline project file, packaged as a ZIP container. This file holds timeline data, project settings, and media references.

How can I open a DRT file?

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. DRT is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:

50% of all DRT files are based on the zip format, the DRT file contains a number of compressed files. 3 to 4 compressed files are common. File names inside are project.xml, \MediaPool\ and \MediaPool\Master\MpFolder.xml. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The file size is in the range of 26 KB to 440 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as project.xml. Examples of file names are Timeline 1.drt or OMO PROMO FINISHED.drt. 10% of all DRT files start with the bytes 84 BB, which are crucial for this file format. These files are not pure binary files and are therefore readable and interpretable with a text editor. Most of these files are 270 bytes to 880 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. C,C,0,000000 and STD0_100.

How to solve problems with DRT files
