What is a DS file?

DS files mostly belong to LMMS by LMMS Developers. A DS file contains a drum sample created with LMMS ( formerly Linux MultiMedia Studio). This file is compressed in a lossless format. It can be loaded and played with the DrumSynth component of LMMS. Another type of DS file contains a data source used by SQL Server relational database management system. Dynamics Solver, a free numeric computation program, saves problem definitions in a DS file. Source code written in DMDscript, an implementation of ECMA 262 scripting language is also saved in a DS file. You can edit this file with any plain text or code editor. How do you open DS files?

You need a suitable software like LMMS to open a DS file. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened.
