DX format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the DX files:
The DX file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 60% of all DX files belong to JCAMP-DX format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. DX files are between 6 KB and 320 KB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The following keywords are characteristic: TITLE, ORIGIN, JCAMP-DX, OWNER, SPECTRUM, ##DATA TYPE=, DATE, DATA CLASS, NTUPLES and LONG DATE. Files like these have the following tags: nmready, sample, week, product, scans, caffeine, spectrum, section, chloro and group.
- 10% of all DX files are based on the zip format, so several files are compressed and saved in one DX file. Primarily 4 to 22 files are included. File names inside are [Content_Types].xml and \_rels\. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. Most of these files are 68 KB to 5 MB in size. A common filename is 2020-06-01 10-30-08-00-01.dx.
All other DX files (30%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. XML, DICOM, UTF-16 (LE), UrQ, ALIDX, Data and object. Often described as data, reflector, points, anhydrous, glucosio, ahud, ftir or spec. If you want to find out which format your DX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .dx file to view".
