All about SP Files
The SP file type is primarily associated with Simplexety.
What is an SP file?
- Main Use: Simplexety is a Windows-compatible scientific calculator application used to create and modify mathematical functions and graphs. Simplexety uses SP files to store the list of mathematical functions as well as other parametric data written using VBScript source code. SP files are used to share mathematical formulae with other users.
- Other Uses: SP files are associated with the Windows-compatible SingPlot software developed by Buchanan Computing. SP files are used by the SingPlot application to store vector image and text data for automating the layout and spacing information in UK traffic signs. SP files are also used by the spatial geometry analysis software, Systems Tool Kit (STK), to store sensor pointing information. SP files are also used by the real-time city-building strategy game ANNO 2070 to store audio data and can be found in the RDA game package files. SP files are also used by the Windows-based puzzle game, Supaplex, to store the player's progress within the game. SP files are also used in UNIX operating systems to compress, archive, and save UNIX Splint data.
How to open an SP file
You need a suitable software like Simplexety to open an SP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SP files:
- Simplexety by Ralf Wirtz
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SP files are often referred to as Simplexety data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ABC SnapGraphics (graphics data file) by MicrografxMicrografx ABC SnapGraphics was a graphics vector-based editing software for creating graphics flows and organization charts designed for the Microsoft Windows platform. Micrografx was acquired by Corel in 2001. SP file stored graphics data used for internal purposes of this software. This SP file type entry is obsolete and no longer supported. This file format is classified as Raster Image. Related links: Micrografx on Wikipedia
- SignPlot (traffic sign file) by Buchanan ComputingBuchanan Computing SignPlot is the traffic sign design software for the United Kingdom that automates the layout and spacing rules of the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manual. The SP file stores output data. It stores vector images and text that can be printed in large - without quality loss. This file format is classified as Raster Image. - Spice (netlist input file) by UC BerkeleySPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) is an old computer simulation and modeling software for Windows platform - used by engineers for mathematical prediction of electronic circuit behavior. SP file is a netlist input file that contains circuit description. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Tutorial, Manual, Info Page, SPICE on Wikipedia
- Supaplex (game demo file) by Digital IntegrationSupaplex is a puzzle-solving computer game developed by Think!Ware, published by Digital Integration and released for Amiga and MS-DOS. The SP file is a demo file that stores visualized gamer's progress in the game. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Manual, FAQ, Supaplex on Wikipedia
- UNIX (splint compressed archive file) by The Open GroupUnix is a family of multitasking and multiuser operating systems originally developed by AT&T for various platforms and devices. This operating system, almost completely written in C language, is now owned by The Open Group. SP file contains a Unix splint compressed archive. This file format is classified as Data. SP file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the SP files is as follows:
The SP file extension is very common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in SP files:
- 60% of all SP files are PEPE 2D constant interval DataSet files. They consist of unreadable binary data. The average file size is 18 KB with most files being between 4 KB and 31 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PEPE2D constant interval DataSet file, Time, SPECTRUM and Standard. Such files are related to sample, pnpa, prob, group, savat, umol, baseline, pireno and dots.
- 4% of all SP files store the data in the PDF file format. PDF is short for Portable Document Format, is a file format to present documents, including text formatting and images, in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 220 KB with most files being between 75 KB and 650 KB in size. A usual file name is view.sp. Files like these are sometimes connected to statement, share and certificate.
The remaining 36% of all SP files are files with no common format, often e.g. Spectrum emulator snapshot, Source, ZIP, XML, EXE, RAR, iSP and CHNK. The category is admin, person, blank, first, acid, administrator, correction, vehicles or konc. If you want to find out which format your SP file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .sp file to analyze".

an sp parameters file is a special file format by Ralf Wirtz and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SP files
- Associate the SP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open parameters files. Because only the current version supports the latest SP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Ralf Wirtz manufacturer website after an available Simplexety update.
- To make sure that your SP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
