What is an E57 file

E57 files mostly belong to Lib E57 by Lib E57. The E57 file format is an extensible industry standard for '3D Imaging Data' developed by ASTM International and specified in the ASTM E2807 - 11 Standard Specification for 3D Imaging Data Exchange' standard. The E57 file stores data in a combination of binary and XML formats used by Laser Scanners, Radars (LADAR), Optical Range Cameras (Flash LADAR) and LIDAR images. A file with E57 file extension can also store point clouds, graphics, core metadata, 2D/3D graphics, and the metadata of such 3D imaging systems. Contents of an E57 file are encoded in a hierarchical tree structure using a subset of XML optimized to allow efficient storage of large amounts of binary data. Its binary data are, however, not embedded in the XML but stored in a separate section and referenced as a dependency. E57 files can be opened with software like AutoCAD, 3DS Max, and Rhino3D.

How to open E57 files

You need a suitable software like Lib E57 from Lib E57 to open an E57 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your E57 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a E57 file directly in the browser:.
