All about ECR Files
The ECR file type is primarily associated with ECR Viewer.
What is an ECR file
Many systems use them to store transaction details and receipts. For example, one common type is the Casio Electronic Cash Register File produced by companies like Sam4s.
Other variations include:
How can I open an ECR file?
You need a suitable software like ECR Viewer to open an ECR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ECR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ECR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- ECR Viewer
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ECR files are often referred to as ECR Viewer data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Ecrypt (E-mail File) by Email ConnectionECR files are file archives containing encrypted, compressed financial documents. ECR files are sent by Email Connection to users who use the services of its customers. The .ECR file extension was used by versions prior to 2005. ECR file format details:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the ECR files:
The ECR file extension includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all ECR files start with the magic bytes 31 2C, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are often between 510 bytes and 180 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: MC NO, ---------------------- and BEER. An example of a file name is CLK_DATA.ECR. These files are often associated with ejfl, data and scrl.
- 9% of all ECR files use the same file format, which have the signature }@+I@. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are often between 1 KB and 16 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as aIous.
All other ECR files (46%) have no consistent format, often, for example, CNT. These files sometimes refer to finc, report, info, provident, export or fund. If you want to find out which format your ECR file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ecr file to view".
Technical Data for ECR File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

How to solve problems with ECR files
- Associate the ECR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest ECR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ECR Viewer update.
- To make sure that your ECR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
