What is an ELOG file

ELOG files mostly belong to DENT ELITEpro. This file type stores log data in a structured format. It is used by different vendors to record events or measurements. The content of an ELOG file depends on the source. Some files record electrical data, others log laser events, simulation events, or even error messages.
Use Cases:

DENT Power Logs: These files, used with DENT Instruments products such as DENT ELITEpro, store electrical measurement data. For details, visit DENT Instruments.

IPG Laser Logs: These files capture log events from laser systems. They are managed with tools provided by IPG LaserLab. More information is available at IPG Photonics.

Error Logs (Encoded/Encrypted): Some ELOG files contain system or application error messages. They may be encoded or encrypted, so proper software or decryption keys are needed to view them.

How to open ELOG files

You need a suitable software like DENT ELITEpro to open an ELOG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ELOG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ELOG file directly in the browser:. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. The ELOG file type includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 35% of all ELOG files use the same file format, which have the signature 32 01 04 00. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. ELOG files are between 20 KB and 8 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ES400.257, DENT ELITEpro XC and 3 Phase - 4 Wire. Files like these are about panel, wedgewood and chiller.
• 9% of all ELOG files have the same signature [üØÐo@‰. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 160 KB. These files are attributed to diagnostic.

All other ELOG files (56%) have different formats, the following 4 formats can be found: msg. Files like these are sometimes linked to logfile, active, eurolab, office, machine, events or system.
