What is an ELS file

ELS files mostly belong to Auctioneer Lister. ELS files are used in different industries and by various software applications. They do not represent one single type of file but appear in several contexts depending on who created them.
For example, ELS files can store online auction listing data. In this case, the file – usually written in UTF-8 – holds information for eBay listings and is managed by Auctioneer Lister software.
Other uses include:

How to open ELS files

You need a suitable software like Auctioneer Lister to open an ELS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ELS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ELS file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the ELS files produces the following result:

As a file extension, ELS isn't very common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 30% of all ELS files save the data in UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes  (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The average file size is 3 KB with most files being between 3.1 KB and 3.6 KB in size. It is a modern file type. The following keywords are characteristic: <APP VERSION>3.1.2</APP VERSION>, ELISTER SAVED LISTING, <ESTFEES>0.15 </ESTFEES>, <FORMAT>002</FORMAT>, <STOREITEM>OFF</STOREITEM>, <TEMPLATE>None</TEMPLATE>, <USER></USER> and TITLE.
• 15% of all ELS files belong to EasyLanguage Storage / Archive. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 5 KB to 96 KB. The keywords ORCMP and IMASTER.MST are typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to book and tsmchapter.
