What is an ELT file?

ELT files mostly belong to CATIA. ELT files serve several specialized functions depending on the software that created them.

CAD Files: Many ELT files are Eltax CAD files that use a ZIP-like compressed structure to store 3D measurement and design data. They are common in systems that manage precise engineering details, such as those used with Catia.

Data Logger Files: A set of these files are produced by Elitech data loggers. Built on the .NET framework, they record sensor or machine information. For more details, you can visit the Elitech Log website.

Encrypted Files: Some ELT files are implemented as encrypted log files or secure documents. In these cases, the data is protected and can require specific decryption tools to access.

How do you open ELT files?

You need a suitable software like CATIA to open an ELT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ELT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ELT file directly in the browser:. ELT file format:

To view or edit ELT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the ELT files:

The ELT file type is a very commonly used file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

55% of all ELT files are based on the zip format, that is, an ELT file includes multiple compressed files. The number of files included is on average 16 and ranges from 13 to 30. File names inside are .anno, .annoprogram, .apidserv, .exl, .extgeom, .jpg, .lastparam, .mdparmnames, .mesh, .pidpaths, .pidserv, .prf, .program, .sab, .shi, .strtbl and parting__quicksplitdb. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The file size is in the range of 77 KB to 7 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as .pidpaths and .anno. These files can be linked to drawing, plate, cavity, teil, spuckschutz, insert, block, dicke and base.
10% of all ELT files save the data in .NET file format. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 180 KB. The keywords NSystem.Data, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089, ElitechLog.Models.COMParameter and 9DL, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null are typical for these files.
