What is an ETL file?

ETL files mostly belong to Windows Performance Analyzer by Microsoft. An ETL file contains a trace log created by the Windows Performance Recorder (WPR) bundled with Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK). It contains operating system and application event logs saved in binary format. Users may import and review ETL logs with Windows Performance Analyzer. Events logged in an ETL file can include hardware connectivity requests/errors, disk read/write operations, system level errors etc. Another type of ETL file is a temperature log recorded by ThermaData loggers manufactured by Electronic Temperature Instruments. How to open an ETL file

You need a suitable software like Windows Performance Analyzer to open an ETL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
