Opening an ENC File
The ENC file type is primarily associated with CopySafe PDF.
What is an ENC file?
- Main Usage: There are different types of standard encoding available and your ENC file might be using any one of them. UU encoded file is one of them and is commonly used. These are Unix files using Unix-to-Unix encoding process. This is a form of binary-to-text encoding popularly used for sending binary files via email.
- Associations:
- Electronic Navigation Chart file format developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Office of Coast Survey (OCS) uses ENC extension. The vector database stored in these files is used by marine transport and coastal management systems.
- CopySafe PDF protector uses ENC extension for encrypted documents. It protects unauthorized copying of content stored in a PDF.
How to open an ENC file
You need a suitable software like CopySafe PDF to open an ENC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ENC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ENC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ENC file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the ENC files produces the following result:
The ENC file extension is quite widespread and does not have a uniform file format. The file formats most commonly found in ENC files are:
- 8% of all ENC files internally use the ZIP format, that is, an ENC file includes multiple compressed files. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are often between 10 KB and 8 MB in size. These files can be linked to notes, memo, sdoc, docx, quick, pptx, xlsx, numbers and spotify.
- 4% of all ENC files are using the well-known RAR file format to store the data. RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 4 MB in size and range from 29 KB to 24 MB. The files contain the following words: Rar!. Such files sometimes refer to akhe, data, uygulamalar and sheet.
All other ENC files (88%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. OpenSSL encrypted data, Encore Musical Notation, Media Safe encrypted data, certificate, JPG, PDF, DOC, RIFF, EXE, LNK, GZIP, TIFF, XML, 7z, MP3, CSPDF, SSE and FsdGVkX. These files sometimes refer to facebook, images, sqlite, atpec, contact or backup. If you want to find out which format your ENC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .enc file to analyze".

an enc encrypted document is a special file format by ArtistScope and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ENC files
- Associate the ENC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open encrypted documents. Because only the current version supports the latest ENC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the ArtistScope manufacturer website after an available CopySafe PDF update.
- To make sure that your ENC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ENC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
