Opening an ENP File
The ENP file type is primarily associated with ENVI.
What is an ENP file?
For instance, one common use is as an ENVI Raster Metadata file. This version stores metadata related to remote sensing imagery, including details linked to a spectral library.
How can I open an ENP file?
You need a suitable software like ENVI to open an ENP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ENP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ENP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ENP files:
- ENVI
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ENP files are often referred to as ENVI data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Entelligence Media Security (Encrypted File/Folder) by EntrustEntelligence Media Security is a PC-based file/folder and media protection application that provides security capabilities - including strong user authentication, authorization and data encryption - that can be used to protect individual files selected by the user. It can also automatically protect data saved to specified folder(s) or removable media. Sometimes you see this as a .ZIP.ENP double file extension. That means someone has used this program to encrypt the ZIP file instead of the encryption in their Zip program. If you know the password use the PasswordUnprotect utility from Entrust to decrypt the file. Related links: PasswordUnprotect Program
ENP file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the ENP files produces the following result:
The ENP file extension is rather rarely used and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 30% of all ENP files use the same file format, which have the signature IVPF. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 39 MB in size and range from 160 KB to 280 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>, <DATASET>, <HEADER>, <HEADER_VERSION_MAJOR>1</HEADER_VERSION_MAJOR>, <HEADER_VERSION_MINOR>1</HEADER_VERSION_MINOR> and IVPF. The file name n27e083_to_n28e085_arc_v3_2.tif.enp is typical for these files. These files are often associated with mosaic and tiff.
- 30% of all ENP files start with the magic bytes A0 96 06 08, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are often between 540 bytes and 27 KB in size. A usual file name is e-NP_Updates20180601.enp or e-NP_Permits20180601.enp. These files are attributed to permits, request, updates, reponse and master.
The remaining 40% of all ENP files are different files with different signatures. These files are often connected to xlsx, report, ecler, list, shareholder, monthly, signed or demo. You can get all the details of your ENP file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .enp file to analyze" above.

an enp data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ENP files
- Associate the ENP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest ENP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ENVI update.
- To make sure that your ENP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ENP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
