What is a FACES file?

FACES files mostly belong to Adobe Acrobat Reader. FACES files serve a dual role. In some cases they are PDF documents generated as report outputs by systems such as Oracle Fusion Middleware and are intended to be opened with a PDF reader. In other cases they are JavaServer Faces pages used in web applications. These JSF files may be formatted as HTML or XHTML (and sometimes as XML) that a web container processes to render dynamic user interfaces.

PDF Reports: Files using a PDF internal format are designed for fixed-layout printing and review with applications like Adobe Acrobat Reader.

JSF Web Pages: Files formatted as HTML or XHTML are used by the JSF framework to manage server-side view rendering. The ".faces" extension in this context is a URL mapping which triggers the FacesServlet in a Java web application.

How to open a FACES file

You need a suitable software like Adobe Acrobat Reader to open a FACES file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The files contain the following words: html xmlns, faces, DATB, Finalorg, basic_classes, eAFrvajdHLp8hjQAEgwDtA__, href, rel, renderkit, richfaces, xcss and xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><link class="component". The file name relatorioPreMatricula.faces or relatorio.faces is characteristic of these files. Files like these are about matricula, orderdetails and rematricula, and often contain personal information.
