Opening an FBM File

The FBM file type is primarily associated with DELFTship.

FBMFile Extension FBM
File extension: FBM
File type:  3D marine vessel model

What is an FBM file?

FBM files mostly belong to DELFTship by DELFTship. The FBM filename extension is commonly associated with 3D graphics files created using DELFship, a software for creating 3D models of ships and other marine vessels. Contents of such FBM files include the 3D model's dimensions (width, height, depth), capacity, and meta data about the objects in the model. Other graphics software application also make use of the FBM file format. CADfix, a computer-aided design software stores the geometry objects of a project in a database file that has a FBM filename extension. An older use case of FBM files is for creating, editing, and converting images to a Bitmap file format with a now obsolete graphics manipulation library called FBM.

How do you open FBM files?

You need a suitable software like DELFTship to open an FBM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FBM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FBM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to convert an FBM file to OBJ, STL, PLY, 3DS, FBX, STP, ...

If you want to convert or edit an FBM file, you can use our free Online FBM File Converter (powered by Convert.Guru):
  1. Just click the "Choose your .fbm file to view this image" button on this page.
  2. After your file is opened in browser,
  3. click "Save as..." in the menu.
  4. Then select the 3D format (e.g. STL, OBJ, 3DS, X, X3D, STP, PLY, ...) you want.
  5. Download the converted file.

Programs that open and convert FBM files:

  1. DELFTship by DELFTship
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FBM files are often referred to as DELFTship 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. CADfix (geometry database) by ITI TranscenData
CADfix is software toolkit that allows data exchange/re-use between different engineering systems and applications. It allows the user to import, repair, or manipulate CAD data to a form that's most suitable for the downstream application. Geometry files of the imported data are stored in FBM (databse) files. This file format is classified as CAD.
  3. Final Burn Alpha (movie capture) by iq_3
Final Burn Alpha is a legacy arcade/Neo Geo emulator. This emulator used FBM as its movie capture format. This file format is classified as Video.
  4. Fuzzy Bitmap
FBM was a toolkit (sometimes called a library) developed in 1989 and used for manipulating or converting raster images to Bitmap file format. The final image had a FBM filename extension. Although the FBM library is now outdated, such FBM files can be viewed in XnView. This file format is classified as Raster Image. Related links: XnView

FBM file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the FBM files:

FBM is not a common file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in FBM files:

All other FBM files (45%) have no uniform format, often e.g. PNG and BRASS. Often described as beam, delftship, longtail, pirogue, check or piece. If you want to find out what your FBM file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an fbm 3D marine vessel model is a special file format by DELFTship and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with FBM files

  • Associate the FBM file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open 3d marine vessel models. Because only the current version supports the latest FBM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the DELFTship manufacturer website after an available DELFTship update.
  • To make sure that your FBM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .FBM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
