What is an FCF file?

FCF files mostly belong to Flowcode. FCF files are used in several distinct ways depending on their internal structure.
For the highest share, an FCF file is a Flowcode project file built on the Microsoft Compound format. These files hold flowchart data and project details for the Flowcode system used by Matrix TSL. More info can be found at Matrix TSL.
Other FCF files serve as configuration or data containers. For example:

SRI Language Model files, sometimes called Nuance Vocalizer Format, are used by NFST for speech synthesis.

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. 35% of all FCF files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format.
