Opening an FCP File
The FCP file type is primarily associated with Final Cut Pro.
What is an FCP file?
How to open an FCP file
You need a suitable software like Final Cut Pro to open an FCP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FCP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FCP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert FCP files:
- Final Cut Pro by Apple
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FCP files are often referred to as Final Cut Pro videos because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- FLAMES (Checkpoint restart data) by TernionFLAMES (Flexible Analysis Modeling and Exercise System) is a series of software for developing live and constructive simulations for defense, aerospace, and transportation purposes. FLAMES stores its checkpoint restart in an FCP file. This file format is classified as Data.
- FontCreator (font project) by High-LogicFontCreator is a Windows-based font authoring/editing software. It supports OpenType and web fonts, and allows users to import and convert raster/vector images of signatures, handwriting, logo etc. to fonts. Fonts created with FontCreator are stored in FCP project files which may be exported as WOFF, OTF, and other formats. This file format is classified as Font.
FCP file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the FCP files produces the following result:
FCP is seldom used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in FCP files:
- 45% of all FCP files are Final Cut project files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 49 KB to 12 MB. This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. The following keywords are characteristic: KeyG, NOUNDO, RUNTIME, children, subtype and viewers. Files like these are sometimes connected to person-related data.
- 10% of all FCP files belong to FontCreator Project. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 210 KB. The files contain the following words: META, PSET, XPRT, FONT, PROP, ANCH, GLYF, KERN, LUTL and NOTE.
The remaining 45% of all FCP files are different files with different signatures, such as DOC. If you want to find out which format your FCP file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .fcp file to analyze".

How to solve problems with FCP files
- Associate the FCP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open video projects. Because only the current version supports the latest FCP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apple manufacturer website after an available Final Cut Pro update.
- To make sure that your FCP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FCP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
