What is an FDP file

FDP files mostly belong to FMOD Studio. FDP files are project or data files used by different applications to store structured information.
If you have an FDP file, it might be one of several types, such as:

FMOD Designer Project: An XML-based file from FMOD Studio that holds audio events, settings, and sound bank details for game and audio projects.

How to open an FDP file

You need a suitable software like FMOD Studio to open an FDP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. FDP file format details:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the FDP files:

The FDP file extension is rarely used and covers a large number of different file formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 15% of all FDP files belong to FMOD Designer Project. The files are using the common file format XML. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The average file size is 600 KB with most files being between 26 KB and 4 MB in size. The files contain the following words: <eventgroup_nextid>0</eventgroup_nextid>, <project>, <version>4</version>, guid, name, soundbank_nextid, <soundde and sounddef. The file name Interface.fdp is characteristic of these files.
• 10% of all FDP files start with the magic bytes 09 00 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. FDP files can be up to 800 bytes in size, but are often around 760 bytes - 800 bytes.

All other FDP files (75%) have no consistent format, often, for example, XML, PDF and JDP. The category is food, plan, defense, sync, telemetry, slogger or safe.
