The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the FRI files comes to the following conclusion:

FRI is not a common file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 30% of all FRI files have the same signature 15 8A 63 C1 4D. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 210 KB to 260 KB in size, with a median of 220 KB. It is a modern file type. TT685C_V3.4.fri or TT685N V3.3.fri is a typical file name.
• 25% of all FRI files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "95 07 63 81 52 29" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 260 KB. A usual file name is V860IIC_V1.8.fri or V860IIN V1.9.fri.
